Secret Life of a Married College Student

The Journey into Motherhood.

I am 29 1/2 weeks pregnant with our first child. His name is Luke Charles Spinella and we love everything about him. The way the kicks me when I bug him for too long, his cute cuddly pudgy cheeks, his little smile, his tiny little feet… the list could go on forever. I have been very excited throughout this entire pregnancy, but as of late it has finally begun to hit me that… I am having a baby. In 10 1/2 short weeks(or sooner) I will welcome new life into the world and he will be our own.

Now, I don’t know if this is just a “me” thing or it’s an “every first time mother” thing, but I can’t believe that it’s taken me nearly THIRTY weeks for it to finally sink in that I am in fact having a child. I’m sure these next few weeks will creep by, but nothing, not time, nor classes, nor advice from mothers before can prepare me for what I’m about to step into. I cannot wait until I get to hold that little boy in my arms, and let Joey count his little fingers and toes. I cannot wait to take our first family photo and send it to everyone. I cannot wait to play peek-a-boo, or to read him his first bedtime story. I cannot wait to sing lullabies to him to lull him to sleep. Yes, I know, motherhood is much more than all the sweet stuff. It’s dirty diapers, and 3 am feedings, and sleepless nights… But I know that all of those sweet moments WILL make up for all the tiring ones. Am I scared? a little. I’m less scared now that more time passes. You would think it would be the other way around, but it’s not. As I get closer, the calmer I have become. (I just hope that all this calmness will help me through labor. lol.)

I don’t know what becoming a mom will be like, but I can imagine what it will be like. And what I imagine is the most wonderful feeling of all. <3
